How to Stay Hydrated on the Go

You probably know how important hydration is for your health. Ensuring your body gets enough water helps your organs, cells and tissues function properly, lubricates your joints and helps your body maintain its temperature and eliminate waste.

How much water is enough? You may have heard 8 cups a day is right, but the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends that women drink about 11 cups of water per day and men drink about 16 cups per day. That’s a lot! The good news, however, is that part of that amount can come from the food we eat (such as fruit and vegetables) and other beverages such as milk, juice, tea and even coffee (in moderate amounts). The exact amount of water you’ll need each day will depend on your activity level and your own body’s specific needs, so as long as you’re not feeling thirsty (thirst is a sign your body is already dehydrated), around 8 cups of plain or flavored water per day is a reasonable goal.

The other bit of good news is that you don’t need to drink all that water at once – in fact, it’s better for your body if you sip regularly throughout the day. This can be a challenge if you spend a lot of your day on the go. If many of your hours are spent in the car or on the bus/commuter train, going from one meeting or one class to another, or running errands, remembering to have a quick drink of water can easily get lost in the shuffle.

How to Stay Hydrated on the Go

You can’t always count on having access to a handy water fountain when you’re out and about, while purchasing water bottles from a vending machine or store (assuming one is nearby) can be inconvenient and hard on your wallet – not to mention the environment. It’s much more convenient, cost effective and eco-friendly to carry your drinks with you.

But what’s the best way to carry water and other beverages with you throughout your day? Regular cups and glasses aren’t built for drinking on the go, so obtaining a water bottle or a tumbler is essential. But which is best for you?

Water Bottle vs. Tumbler

Tumblers and water bottles are portable drinking vessels that are both useful for ensuring you stay hydrated while you’re out and about. But which will meet your needs best?

  • Water bottles. Water bottles are a good choice for active portability. Made from a variety of materials (including plastic and stainless steel), water bottles are designed to be used during periods of more vigorous physical activity, like hiking and other active sports. They have secure caps to prevent leaks and a shape that’s easy to grip.

  • Tumblers. Sometimes called travel mugs, tumblers (like Wyldr’s own DUUN® Tumblers) are designed to act as portable drinking vessels. Great for sipping on the go, tumblers are excellent for enjoying your favorite beverage while commuting, working or attending class, and during other leisure activities (like fishing). Tumblers have wide mouths that make them easy to fill, and sip-through lids to prevent spills. Unlike water bottles, tumblers are typically designed to keep your drink hot or cold for extended periods of time.

To sum up: if you’re wondering how to stay hydrated on the trail, or in similar periods of intense activity, water bottles are the best choice. For more passive or “leisure” activities, tumblers are the right choice. If your desire is for a type of “daily use” portable drinkware – one that lets you enjoy sipping your favorite beverage while you’re in the care, at your desk or by the pool – go for a tumbler.

Glass-Lined Tumblers vs. Plastic Tumblers

Tumblers offer a versatile way to enjoy sipping everything from water and other cold, refreshing drinks to your hot morning coffee. You’ve determined a tumbler is the right choice for you…what which kind will best meet your needs? Tumblers can be made from a variety of materials. Two of the most popular are glass and plastic. Each has its advantages and disadvantages:

  • Plastic tumblers. The advantage to a plastic tumbler is lightness (so they’re easy to carry) and durability (so they’re less likely to break if dropped). The main disadvantage to a plastic tumbler, however, is that the plastic may potentially leach chemicals into your drink. This affects the taste of your drink and can be dangerous for your health, as well. Also, plastic drinkware often needs to be hand washed as heat from the dishwashing cycle can increase chemical leaching as well as damage the tumbler. Additionally, repeated use of plasticware breaks down the material, which can allow bacteria to build up in the cracks.

  • Glass tumblers. “Glass” tumblers aren’t really glass per se – they are glass lined. A glass insert (which may or may not be removeable) is placed inside a plastic or stainless steel shell (as in the case of Wyldr DUUN Tumblers). This “double wall” design is what helps keep your drink the temperature it was when you poured it into the tumbler. Drinking from a glass receptacle is a better choice both for your health and the taste of the drink because, unlike stainless steel, glass is non-reactive, and unlike plastic it doesn’t leach chemicals into your drinks. The glass insert can also be removed from the shell and washed separately in the dishwasher for convenience. It can even be placed in the freezer before adding cold drinks to help your drink stay cold longer.

One of the few disadvantages of having a tumbler with a glass insert is the fragility of glass. The DUUN Tumbler’s stainless-steel shell, however, keeps the tumbler’s borosilicate glass insert protected so it’s less likely to break in the event of a mishap. (It also comes with a one-year warranty, allowing you to get a replacement insert if something happens to the original.

DUUN Tumblers…the Easy, Stylish Way to Stay Hydrated

Holding up to 15 ounces of your favorite beverage and easy to care for, the DUUN is sure to become your favorite accessory for all your urban adventures and road trips! Here are just a few reasons why:

  • Temperature control. The DUUN’s innovative borosilicate glass insert and durable, stainless steel insulating shell work together to keep your beverage at just the right temperature, whether it’s refreshingly cold iced tea or steaming hot coffee.

  • No-spill lid. The Tritan plastic lid makes it easy to take a sip whenever you feel like it, and you won’t get any metallic taste from drinking out of it, either.

  • Stylish. The DUUN Tumbler has a sleek, attractive design that comes in a wide variety of eye-catching colors, so you can feel as good about carrying it as you do using it.

  • Versatile. DUUN Tumblers can be used for many different types of drinks, including water, coffee, tea, wine, beer, and mixed drinks.

  • Eco-friendly. DUUN Insulated Tumblers are a reusable alternative to paper and foam cups, which helps reduce waste.

  • No condensation. The outside of your DUUN insulated tumbler doesn’t get as hot or cold as the drink inside, so you don’t need to worry about condensation or using coasters. It also keeps your fingers from getting burned or frozen.
